President's Message

The May and June campouts were really fun! Seven people went to Blue Water Lake State Park.  We saw 'El Morro' which is an inscription rock with signatures dating back to the Spanish Conquistadors.  Some were inscribed 15 years before the pilgrims landed.  Rod Heir did a presentation about gold prospecting and hunting for meteorites.  He gave each of us a sample of meterites.  We also went to Gallup to the Native American arts & crafts flea market. Those attendiding were Mickey Tanner, Marcia Griffith, Rod Heir, Dick Ferron, Betty Metzler, Bill Barnett & Joan Ash.

Twelve people attended the Pie Town campout.  It was hosted by Betty Metzler & Dick Ferron.  Before the c/o 6 of us visited the 'Very Large Array', which is a collection of satellite-type radio receivers (is there really life out there somewhere?).  We all had dinner at the Daily Pie Cafe & ofcourse, sampled the wonderful pie.  We took a drive thru Apach National Forest to Quemado Lake for lunch at Snuffy's.  The last day we drove out to see the lava flow field, the natural arches & a sandstone overlook.  Unfortunately, 3 of our guys were on motorcycles when the hail storm hit.  James Lane got a little scratched up when his bike slid out from under him on the dirt road.  Members attending were Mickey Tanner, Betty Metzler, Dick Ferron, Sandra Carpenter, Jim Kelly, Gina Bandaret  Guest were   Jack Matlock, James Lane, Dan Powell, Jim Sandefur, Bobbie Leake & Connie Ramierez.
